FBI urges shoppers to be skeptical about frauds during holidays

FARMINGTON — Federal police force officials are warning brand brand New Mexico residents that are shopping on the web this festive season to just take precautions which will help them avoid becoming the target of a number of frauds.

Officials during the FBI’s online Crime Complaint Center said New Mexicans destroyed almost $18 million in 2019 to such frauds, which ranged from nondelivery of items they currently had taken care of to phishing schemes and identification theft.

“Because for the pandemic that is more and more people than ever before are anticipated to search online this season,” James Langenberg, unique representative responsible for the Albuquerque FBI Division, stated in a pr release through the agency. “Unfortunately, this means more prospective victims of getaway frauds. The FBI urges customers become vigilant and protect themselves against crooks seeking to make an instant dollar.”
